It is not without reason that Goldsborough Hall, Yorkshires Finest wedding venue, is listed in Bride’s magazine top 100 venues. This rather hidden gem is a stunning stately hall which is still the much loved home of the Oglesby family. Although 400 years old within it’s walls the old mixes with the new as beautiful antique furniture and a magnificent wooden staircase lead you to bedrooms that have been sympathetically restored and furnished with such opulence and attention to detail that they really are fit for Royalty – which is perhaps appropriate for what was once the home of Princess Mary – the Queen’s aunt.
The hall stands in 11 acres of landscaped gardens with delightful features around every corner and far reaching views to surrounding parkland. The state rooms within the Hall include a superb Oak panneled Jacobean library – complete with an interesting selection of books – and Robert Adams inspired dining room and drawing room. The stained glass windows on the main staircase make a superb backdrop for those all important photographs and there are cosy archairs strategically placed on your way up (or down!) should you wish to pause a while and savour the moment. It is quite magnificent yet the atmosphere within the Hall is not austere but welcoming and homely with vases of freshly picked flowers carefully placed on window-ledges and beautiful large mirrors reflecting in the light making it feel very light and airy.
So that’s a little about Goldsborough Hall but what is it like as a wedding venue? I honestly don’t think there are enough superlatives to do it justice! If I had to choose only one it would be “superb”. What makes it so special, besides it’s architecture for me however is the staff. Headed on a wedding day by wedding planner Pamela, nothing is left to chance. Pamela herself is a lady who commands respect and presents herself as impeccably dressed as any guest she may meet on a wedding day. The “team” go about their invidual jobs with a cheery smile and a few words to pass the time of day – it’s clear to the onlooker that this is as nice a place to work as it is to rest a while – and even better place to play!
So, now I’ve whetted your appetite to know a little more, let me share with you some of the highlights of Hannah and Dan’s recent wedding day at Goldsborough Hall and let you see for yourself how special this venue really is. Our congratulations to Hannah and Dan and thank you for inviting us to share your special day – it really was a pleasure!
